We are a non-auditioning, no barriers choir, and our aim is to make the choir experience as accessible and enjoyable as possible. We welcome anyone aged between 8 and 12 years.
Our conductors direct the choir using a microphone and PA system. We learn songs with a mix of learning by ear, using printed lyric sheets and sometimes providing music scores for those who can read music or are keen to learn this as a new skill.
Our core team is currently learning Makaton signing, so if your child uses this language to communicate, please let us know. Some of our songs will be taught with Makaton signing as well.
The Usher Hall has wheelchair access both front of house and backstage and adapted toilets in both areas. Guide dogs are welcome. We can reserve seats for any child with an auditory impairment (eg closer to the PA speakers, or in a central position if they lip-read), and we are happy to provide large-font copies of printed items with advance notice.
There are some Blue Badge parking spaces on Grindlay Street and Cambridge Street (either side of the Usher Hall).
We’ll provide a detailed explanation of the route into the building and onto the stage as part of each choir member’s welcome pack before the term begins.
Please contact us if you would like to discuss any support issues before registering your child or children to join the choir. We will do our very best to be honest, resourceful and open minded about the level of support we can provide in cases of more complex issues.
