Do I need experience?
No experience necessary! One of our great strengths is providing quality support for both accomplished singers and complete beginners. There will be more than enough to challenge and excite all kinds of voices with all levels of previous experience! During the choir sessions, you will have the opportunity to develop good singing technique to promote healthy singing, listening skills, singing in harmony, and reading music if you want to.
Do I need to know how to read music?
You don’t have to read music, but there will be opportunities to do so, or to start to learn if you wish.
What age range is the choir for?
Junior Choir is specifically for young people aged 8-12.
What if I turn 13 during the term?
You are welcome to be part of the choir for a full term if you are 12 when the term begins.
What kind of music will we sing?
Great music from everywhere and in many different styles. We believe in fostering and promoting cultural and musical curiosity.
Will we also perform at the Usher Hall?
Yes! Junior Choir performs in the Usher Hall, sometimes alongside Love Music Community Choir, and sometimes outside the hall. We might not have a public concert every term but there will always be a sharing event or project to work towards at the end of each term.
What else will I get from the choir?
You will have the opportunity to:
+ meet and make new friends from across the city
+ enjoy all the health and wellbeing benefits of singing with others
+ increase your confidence and resilience
+ learn songs in different languages, and learn about music from different cultures
+ learn vocal techniques and how to harmonise with others
+ learn listening, rhythmic skills and musicianship skills
+ enjoy the wonderful and inspiring setting of the Usher Hall, one of the UK’s finest concert halls
+ raise your voices together in song and feel good!
We aim to give you a weekly life-affirming, emotional lift! You might be interested to read our Term 1 blogs from singers.
